Have you ever walked down Main Street and thought, “Wouldn’t it be nice if we had more trees here?” Or “What if there were wider sidewalks for strollers or outdoor seating for lunch?” Or maybe, “Would a roundabout make this intersection safer for pedestrians and drivers?” Or do you love it just the way it is and couldn't imagine Raymond with anything different?

Well, now’s the time to speak up — because the Town of Raymond is launching an exciting conversation about the future of our Main Street.

Broadway has always been the heart of Raymond. It’s where we gather for parades, run into neighbours on the way to the post office, grab a bite to eat, or support one of our many local businesses. Whether you're a longtime resident or new to town, chances are you have a memory — or many — rooted on this street.

And we know this community loves Broadway — and our businesses. We love them too. Our local business owners have been showing up for us for decades, and it’s about time Broadway got some of that love and attention in return. It’s not just about a fresh coat of paint or new pavement — it’s about ensuring that Main Street will always be the heart of our community. A place that reflects who we are, and where we’re going.

As we get ready to celebrate Raymond’s 125th anniversary in 2026, it’s the perfect moment to look back with pride — and forward with purpose.

We have developed a couple of concepts to just get the conversation started. Nothing has been decided except that we will redo the roads and sidewalks....but we want your opinions. What kind of main street do we want to walk, bike, drive, and gather on in 10, 50, even 125 years from now?

💬 We Want to Hear From You

We’re asking for your thoughts on some big-picture ideas and practical improvements, including:

  • Should we keep or remove the angled centre median parking?

  • Do we want to see more trees, landscaping, or decorative sidewalks?

  • Could bike lanes or pedestrian-friendly features make Broadway safer and more enjoyable for everyone?

  • How can we better support public gatherings, community events, and the businesses that make downtown great?

  • Should we build traffic circles at Broadway & 100N and Broadway & Church/Park Ave to improve pedestrian and traffic safety?

  • and.... Should we try and develop better pedestrian access from the ice arena parking lot to provide additional parking and access to our amazing mainstreet businesses?

No idea is too small — or too bold. Whether you're focused on parking, planning festivals, or pushing a stroller across the street, we want your input.

🛠️ Why Now?

We’re already building great things. This year, the Town is finalizing the development of our $12 million Wastewater Treatment Expansion project, and work has begun at the Hospital which is undergoing a significant redevelopment that will provide more capacity and enhanced capabilities that will better serve our community.

In 2026, the Town will complete a $3 million High School Infrastructure Project and we are awaiting word on a $2 million grant for Victoria Sports Park Phase 4, which if successful, would see the construction of brand-new pickleball complex, enhance our baseball diamonds, and potentially create an all-wheel park for local riders and skaters in 2027. These projects represent major investments in the future of our community by the province of Alberta, Westwinds School Division and the Town itself.

And in 2028, Council has earmarked Broadway Street — from Highway 52 to just past the Community Centre — for a full redevelopment. That gives us the rest of this year and next to do it right: to gather ideas from residents, engage with business owners, and complete the engineering and planning work needed to bring your vision to life.
